How we Got our Business Name

Starting a small business with a family can be a challenge, and it can also be an inspiration.

        The significance of our business name came from our family, specifically our four boys. When the owners, Tristan and Erin, met and fell in love, they both had two boys that were very similar in age. (If you missed our first blog, you can read about how we got started!) The boys grew closer and eventually became step-brothers...and behave as siblings in every way. They receive correspondences and gifts from their grandparents, and one particular care package was cleverly addressed to "The CROW Boys", as the word "crow" is actually an acronym for all of their names: Cyrus, Rowan, Oscar, and Wyatt. After that, the acronym stuck, and the boys would proudly refer to themselves with their assigned collective name.

A few fun facts about crows: 

• Crows can solve puzzles at an intelligence level on par with human kids
• Crows gossip, recognize faces, and hold grudges...forever
• Crows not only use tools, but they will also make them 
• Crows hold "funerals" for their dead
• Young crows will stay close to home to help the family
• Crows mate for life

        In addition to the family tie name, Tristan and Erin have both had a special affinity to crows for much of their lives. The crow's intelligence; devotion to their friends and family; playfulness; and ability to hold grudges really spoke to us. They are also closely connected to the fantasy and arcane world, and folklore portrays them on a spectrum from tricksters or thieves, to wise advisors, or to deities themselves. And since our business offers unique products (that a crow might find and bring you if you were lucky enough to befriend one!)- and we plan on presenting live events that welcome you into different worlds- we knew we were on to something. 

        So, the "Curious Crow Company" name was created out of love of family, corvids, and all things strange and beautiful.
